The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today informed the court that they were yet to receive Attorney General’s advice regarding investigations against six members attached to the Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath including its Secretary Abdul Razik for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Buddha and hurting the sentiments of the Sinhala-Buddhist community in the country.
The CCD conducting investigation into the incident informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that the extracts of the investigations have been already forwarded to the Attorney General.
After taking into consideration the facts, the Chief Magistrate decided to send a reminder to the Attorney General urging to expedite his legal advice regarding the incident.
Further magisterial inquiry into the incident fixed for November 27.
At a previous occasion, the Department of Buddhist Affairs in a report informed the Court that alleged derogatory remarks made by the Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath through a video has caused damages to country’s religious harmony.
Six members of Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath are being prosecuted for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Buddha and hurting the sentiments of the Sinhala-Buddhist community in the country.
Ven. Soranathota Chandrarathana Thera lodged a complaint with the CCD alleging that a video footage released by Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath has insulted the Buddha and Sinhala community.
The complainant alleged that the Secretary to Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath, Abdul Razik, had deliberately made derogatory remarks on Buddha on April 13, 2013 citing that the Buddha had eaten human flesh and ‘triple gem’ means just stones.
