Deputy Solicitor General Susantha Balapatabendi today said that the Attorney General would give detained Attorney Hejaaz Hizbullahs lawyers access to meet him.

He said this when the case filed by a lawyer on behalf of Hizbullah was taken up before the Court of Appeal today.

Appearing on behalf of the Petitioner , Romesh De Silva PC said that no access has been given to lawyers to meet Hizbullah since September 12.

" We have written to the CID repeatedly but there was not a single response to date " he said.

Mr. Balapatabendi said that in principle he agrees that access should be granted to lawyers .

He said the CID had continuously given access to Hizbullahs lawyers . The petition details how all communications between Hizbullah and his lawyers were closely monitored by the sleuths.

The Petitioner Chalana Perera said that at all consultations there were CID officers monitoring the entire meeting and taking down notes. He said this was a breach of Lawyer - Client privilege.

The matter will be taken up tomorrow at 9.30 AM for the Attorney General to provide specific dates and times the consultations are to take place.
