All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) organisation yesterday claimed that the individuals who committed this barbaric attack on innocent civilians did not belong to them and they do not accept their bodies.
Speaking at a media briefing, the ACJU said there was no place in Islam for extremism and the Muslims of Sri Lanka strongly condemn all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism. The Sri Lankan Muslim Community always supported and worked with the Sri Lankan government, he said.
The ACJU expressed their deepest sympathies to the families of the demised and prayed for a quick recovery for all who were injured on the Easter Sunday terror attack. The ACJU had requested all Muslims to observe fast yesterday to ease the current situation and for those who were affected in the tragedy.
"The Muslim community vehemently condemn these act of terrorism on our Christian brothers and sisters while at worship in their churches and various other places. We also request the authorities to bring those who were responsible for this attack before the law and mete out maximum punishment," they said.
The ACJU and the Muslim organisations issued a joint declaration against the ISIS on July 22, 2015, and noted that since the declaration was made, the ACJU and other Muslims organisations had continuously informed the defence authorities and requested them to take necessary actions against the individuals who promote extremist ideologies, they said.
The ACJU also requested the government to protect every citizen of the country and provide necessary protection to all places of religious worship, they added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
