97 arrested while fleeing to Australia

Ninety seven Sri Lankans were taken into custody by Sri Lankan Navy while trying to flee to Australia, Military Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said.

The arrested are currently in Navy custody and will be hand over to the police for further investigation.

Among the arrested persons are 39 males, 18 females and 40 children. They are residents of Batticaloa, Ampara, Puttalam, Badulla, Mannar, Killinochchi, Chilaw and Negombo. They were brought to Oluwil Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
