A total of 94% of the principals, 90% teachers, and 46% of students were present in schools yesterday, the Education Ministry said.

Accordingly, the highest number of teachers (99.8%) and students' presence (86%) were reported from the Sabaragamuwa province.

The teachers and students engaged in their teaching activities while adhering to health guidelines.

"9,190 schools scheduled to open yesterday were reportedly opened. It was 100% from the number of schools that were opened yesterday, "the Ministry said.

Although the schools resumed late, the Education Ministry has decided to end the third school term as scheduled and to use alternative methods to cover up the missed subjects.

As such, the Education Ministry Secretary, Prof. Kapila Perera said the schools' third term will end in December and every student will be promoted to their next grade. The missed subjects will be covered by using other methods, such as conducting lessons on Saturdays and lengthening daily school hours more than the scheduled school hours.

The Ministry had discussed with the National Institute of Education (NIE) in this regard, Prof. Perera said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
