7,427 IDPs to be resettled by year-end

The minister of resettlement Gunaratne Weerakoon said in parliament yesterday that 7,427 internally displaced persons in the Kadirgamar Relief Village and Ananda Coomaraswamy Relief Village would be resettled in their homes before December 31 this year.

Responding to an oral question raised by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake in the House yesterday, Mr. Weeakoon said there are 3,324 IDPs in the Kadirgamar Relief Village while there were 4,103 persons in the Ananda Coomaraswamy relief village at present.

He said there were 1,002 children under the age of five years in both relief villages. The number of children between the ages of five and ten in both camps are 1,165 while there are 1,528 children between the ages of 10 to 18. (Yohan Perera and Kelum Bandara)
