704 CID officers barred from overseas travel

A name list of 704 officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been sent to airport authorities seeking the prevention of them leaving the country sans permission, a spokesman said.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara told Daily Mirror that CID sleuths were involved in probing numerous cases and therefore their presence was needed for evidence in court proceedings.

He said the airport authorities were requested to notify the CID Director in the event of anyone arriving in for formalities to travel abroad.

“If they have received prior approval, it is alright. Otherwise, they will be held back. However, this is not a travel ban on them,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)
