More than 60 policemen attached to the Horana, Moragahahena and Bandaragama police stations have been transferred immediately over a number of incidents involving delays in investigations, Police Headquarters said today.

They said these 63 policemen had been serving in these police stations for more than three years and that had made it difficult for them  to conduct their duties.

During the past three years a number of incidents especially involving shootings, snatching of gold chains and harassment on women were reported but the policemen had been reluctant to probe the allegations and arrest those involved.

After a prolonged inquiry the department took steps under the direction of IGP N.K Illangakone to transfer them to police stations within the Western Province. (Supun Dias)
