57,500 kg of refuse tea confiscated by STF

A large consignment of refuse tea had been seized by the Special Task Force (STF) from a lorry and two warehouses at Kelanimulla and Megoda Kolonnawa today.

Five suspects had also been arrested in this regard, the Police said. The consignment of refuse tea totaled 57,500 kgs.

Officials said the STF personnel seized 5,000 kgs refuse tea from a lorry this morning. Following interrogating the driver another stock 7,500 kgs of tea was recovered in a warehouse at Kelanimulla.

Another 45,000 kgs were discovered from a warehouse in Megoda, Kollonnawa.  

The STF said the refuse tea stock and the suspects had been handed over to the Wellampitiya Police.

The raid was carried out by the IP Nadeeka Silva on the instruction of STF Acting Commodore SSP Ranjith Perera.(DS)
