Five Sri Lankan fishermen were apprehended and a vessel containing huge quantity of fish was seized by Indian Coast Guard off Paradip coast in Odisha, police said today.

The foreign fishing trawler carrying the Sri Lankan fishermen was intercepted yesterday during patrolling by Coast Guard ship 'Bajra' about 139 nautical miles from Paradip coastline.

The five fishermen were handed over to the police at Marine police station at Paradip and were arrested for trespassing into Indian waters in violation of international maritime law. Their identity cards were also seized, they said.

However, no arms and ammunition were recovered from the fishermen, added police. (Business Standard)
