41 TN fishermen released

A Sri Lankan court on Wednesday ordered release of 41 Rameswaram and Mandapam fishermen, who were arrested by the island Navy.

Twenty-one fishermen were arrested on July 5 and the rest on August 5 for allegedly fishing in Lankan waters.

The Judicial Magistrate of Mannar court Anandhi Kanakarathinam, however, ordered detention of ten boats seized by the Lankan navy, Innocent Fishermen Organisation President, U. Arulanandam said.

The 35 fishermen of Pamban, who were already released by a Vavuniya court recently, were still in Sri Lanka, awaiting boats for ferrying them to India.

The 76 fishermen are expected to reach Rameswaram either today or tomorrow. (PTI)
