37,000 bottles of water seized

Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) today seized 37,000 bottles of water from a bottling plant of a popular brand of drinking water in Dalugama after it was found that the the water contained some kind of a chemical.

CAA officer, who led the raid, said the bottled water had an odor similar to kerosene.

The owners of the plant when questioned by the CAA officers said they had not added any chemical to the water

However samples of water have been sent to government analyst for examination. Action will be taken against the owners no sooner the analyst’s report is received.

The bottled water had an estimated value of more than three million rupees. (YP)
