36-hour water cut

There will be a 36-hour water cut in several areas in the Colombo suburbs and a 12-hour water cut in and around Colombo on the weekend, Deputy General Manager of the Water Supply and Drainage Board (WSDB) Gerard Fernando said.

“There will be a 36-hour water cut in Homagama, Kesbawa, Boralasgamuwa, Meepe and Godagama and Maharagama Municipal Council areas while a 12 hour water cut in certain areas in and around Colombo,” Mr. Fernando said.

According to him several areas in and around Colombo will face a 12-hour water cut on Sunday (January 30) from 8am to 8pm while the 36-hour water cut will start at 8.00 am Saturday Morning (January 29) and will continue till  8pm Sunday (30).

The areas that come under 12-hour water cut are as follows Colombo, Maharagama, Kotte, Kolonnawa, Dehiwala – Mount Lavinia Municipality areas, Peliyagoda, Wattala Mabola, Kesbewa, Boralesgamuwa Municipality areas, Ja-Ela, Kelaniya, Wattala, Mahara, Dompe, Biyagama, Kotikawatta, Mulleriyawa Municipality areas and Kaldemulla, Soysapura, Telawala (Moratuwa Municipality areas), Kaduwela municipal council area Battaramulla, Hokandara, Malabe and Biyagama free economic zone and Malwana areas.

The interruption of water supply would be due to urgent renovations of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). (SR)
