The 33 Sri Lankan students airlifted from Wuhan in China on February 1 and quarantined at the Diyatalawa army hospital will be discharged on February 16, Chief epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said yesterday.

He told Daily Mirror would complete their 14 days of quarantine on Saturday and there was no reason to detain them any longer after being certified free of coronavirus symptoms.

"They are doing fine with no sign of any symptoms of coronavirus infection. The medical team at the hospital is confident that they are out of danger and fit to be released to their families,” Dr. Samaraweera said.

Meanwhile, 15 Sri Lankans are still under observation at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda, the National Hospital in Kandy, the Teaching Hospitals in Karatpitiya, Ragama, Kurunegala, and Jaffna and the General Hospitals in Gampaha, Badulla and Negombo. (Sandun A Jayasekera)
