246 arrested for drunken driving within 24 hours

Some 246 people have been arrested by the police across the country during the past 24 hours, for driving under the influence of liquor, Police said today.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the arrests were made between 6 am yesterday to 6 am today. He said among the arrested, 79 were drunken three-wheeler drivers.

A total of 1,305 drunken drivers have been arrested by the police since they launched a special operation on December 24 covering the entire country, to arrest motorists driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said among those arrested 707 were motorcyclists and 438 were three-wheeler drivers.
