25.4m worth cash, jewellery robbed

Two unidentified motorcyclists wearing full-face helmets robbed Rs. 23.6 million worth gold jewellery and Rs. 1.8 million in cash from a private financial institute in Rawathawatta, Moratuwa in broad daylight today.

The robbers had assaulted the security guards, threatened the staff by pointing firearms at them, locked them in a room and committed the robbery.

The staff members had broken open the doors and come out after the robbers left.

Police have recorded statements from the eye witnesses but no arrests have been made so far.

The Moratuwa and Mount Lavinia police have launched a special investigation to find the with the help of the CCTV footage.
