The UNP’s local government poll campaign has come to the level that 21 of its candidates who had tendered nominations for the March 17 election have crossed over to the UPFA camp by today, Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dulles Alahapperuma said.

Addressing the media at the Mahaweli Center, Minister Alahapperuma said UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was continuously changing the slogans of the election campaign and his ‘Media Bubbles’ are so ineffective that they get blown out even before their gloss become visible.

“The UNP’s main slogan at the beginning of the election propaganda campaign was the flood and flood victims. Then they changed the course and shouted about coconut prices. Then after it was the price of onion. Now that the prices of onion have steadied, they will talk about Pathola (snake gourd) at the tail end of the election campaign as the UNP can’t find any other topic to talk about,” Minister Alahapperuma said.

Minister Alahapperuma said though the prices of some food items were high, they went to the hands of our own farmers strengthening rural economy, which was a blessing to the country in the long run.  (Sandun A. Jayasekera)
