Steps will be taken to promote 209 qualified Chief Inspectors of Police to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) by the end of this month, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekera said.
The Minister said that he had identified several issues that needed to be addressed in the Sri Lanka Police.
"The issue of promotions has been identified as one of the major issues and that police officers have not been promoted for many years due to lack of due procedure," he said.
Minister Weerasekara said that although it had been decided to appoint only 63 Chief Inspectors to the rank of ASP, he had discussed the matter with the President and increased that number to 209.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
