15 December 2019 12:56 pm

In connection to the vehicle mishap that occurred in 2016 which left the victim bedridden, former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said he had not been found guilty of the accident and added that he had only been asked to give support to the ongoing investigations.

Addressing a news briefing yesterday, he said it was ‘simply an accident.'

He also denied claims that he had been driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

However, the police had informed the court that the CCTV footages had been erased.

Victim Sandeepa Sampath of Godagama was severely injured in the accident and is still suffering physically and mentally.

When questioned if it was true that he had allegedly threatened the victim’s friend, who had chased his vehicle following the accident, he said that there wasn’t any proof of that.

“The media fabricated the story,” he said.

However, the former minister has been banned from flying overseas. (Dinali K Wijayasooriya)
