2 Policeman accused of murder granted bail

Two police Narcotics Bureau officials who were held in remand custody in connection with the alleged death of a 30-year-old who had visited the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) office to sign the case book were released on bail by a Colombo Court yesterday.
After taking into consideration bail applications by the suspects, the Colombo High Court had granted bail to the two suspects Sub Inspector Ruwan Kumara and Police Constable Manoj Nehinna.

Accordingly, each suspect was released on cash bail of Rs.25,000 and two sureties of Rs.50,000.
In December last year, two police officers attached to PNB were arrested by the Fort police in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, it was transpired in court that the third suspect D. Ranil a police officer who is wanted in connection with the incident had gone abroad (to the Middle East).

A PNB officer had in a statement said the man had been suffocated while drinking water at the PNB office on October 30 last year.(Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
