18 OIC’s transferred

The Police Headquarters said that today that 18 OIC’s have been transferred with immediate effect.
 
Police said that the transfers were routine transfers and they were not taken on disciplinary grounds. The Police Department is planning to take a number of steps this year to increase its efficiency and move closer to the public by introducing a number of people friendly initiatives under the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) N.K. Illangakone.
 
HQI Matara CI H.M. Herath has been transferred as OIC of Kochchikade, OIC Beruwala CI K.G. Piyasekara has been transferred as OIC Aluthgama, OIC Aluthgama CI P.R. De Silva has been transferred as SN Pettah, OIC Bentota IP I.M. Duminda as OIC Beruwala, CI G.A.P. Abeysinghe the OIC Mahawela as OIC Walapane and senior DIG Central Province is to make suitable acting arrangement until a permanent OIC Mahawela is posted, IP W.G.S.C. Walpola the OIC Nanuoya as OIC Udupussellawa, CI D.D.R. Dassanayaka the OIC Udupussellawa as OIC Balangoda, CI U.G. Seneviratne the OIC Balangoda as OIC PAM
IP K. Asoka of Peliyagoda as OIC Kinniya, CI N.P. Sooriyarachchi the OIC Weeraketiya as OIC Hakmana, CI A.K.K.R. Amarasinghe the OIC Hakmana as OIC Welikada.
 
Police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the OIC of the Welikada police CI D.S.K. Pushpakumara had been transferred as HQI Mount Lavinia, CI V.M.N. Perera the HQI Mount Lavinia as OIC RO, F/CI A.G.L. Chanidma the OIC Kataragama as OIC Weeraketiya, IP I.T.B. Dekanduwala of Kataragama as Acting OIC Kataragama until a permanent OIC Kataragama is posted, CI A.M.G.T.B. Senewirathna the OIC Welfare as OIC CCTV, CI G.K. Abeynayake the OIC Kekirawa as OIC Welfare and IP M.G.P. Sanjeewa of the Dickwella police transferred as OIC Middeniya.
 
The police department is currently going through a massive restructuring programme to increase the capabilities and efficiency of the department.  A committee on police restructuring and supervision is looking into malpractices and inefficiency at police stations and police projects.
 
Making surprise visits to such police stations is a part of the committee. The committee will take steps to evolve a mechanism to provide a satisfactory service to the public and also to reduce shortcomings in the police that cause hardships to the public.  (Supun Dias)
