17 candidates taken into custody along with 4 vehicles: Police

Seventeen candidates and four of their vehicles were taken into the custody by the Police yesterday over crimes and violations related to the General Election, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said today.

He said two complaints over crimes and 8 complaints of violation of election laws were reported to the Police yesterday.

SSP Senaratna said that a total of 440 individuals were arrested by the Police over 357 complaints of crimes and election law violations.

He said 93 complaints over crimes and 264 incidents of election law violations were among them.

The Spokesman said that 123 vehicles including three state vehicles were also taken into the custody as of yesterday.(DSB)
