A 16-year-old schoolboy had been allegedly stabbed to death by one of his classmates over a dispute while a group of boys were holding a discussion to organise a ‘Dansela’ for the upcoming Wesak Festival.

The victim was identified as Chalaka Danushka of Panagoda. He was a student of Mahanama College in Colombo studying for the GCE AL Examination and the second child of four in the family.

This incident had occurred on Monday during a discussion at a neighbour’s house about fund-collecting for the Dansela.  However, this meeting had suddenly turned into a dispute and one youth had grabbed a knife in the vicinity and allegedly stabbed the boy on his face.

The victim was first admitted to the Homagama hospital and later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital where he died during treatment at the ICU on Monday. Police had taken a suspect into custody. (Muditha Dayananda)
