150,000 ammo recovered

A stock of 150,000 ammunition was recovered by the security forces from the former LTTE stronghold in Vellamullivaikkal in Mullaitivu on Friday, the defence ministry said.

The eastern command of the Navy with help from Army recovered over 150,000 ammunition. Vellamullivaikkal is the town where LTTE's three-decade- old armed campaign ended with the death of Velupillai Prabhakaran on May 18, 2009.

The LTTE was believed to have hidden most of their weaponry in the area when the outfit was trapped by the advancing Army.

The recovered items are as follows:

    9 x 19 mm KOPP ammunition                  -         120,000
    SG 12 Bore ammunition                            -         2750
    357 Magnum (Blazer) ammunition          -         5600
