The Old Boys' Unions of Royal College, Colombo and S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia today said no one who was subjected to self-quarantine after their participation in the big match has tested positive of COVID-19, as they end the 14-day period of self-quarantine.
However they adviced the past pupils of the two schools and others to heed the advice and guidance of health authorities in the country.
Issuing a joint statement, they urged their fellow schoolmates; ... please appreciate this fact with sober reflection and please do not use social media or any other platform to appear triumphalistic or flippant about it.
"As Sri Lankans we have always stood with our fellow citizens and we face the scourge of this virulent virus together," it said.
The statement further said; We are, all of us, susceptible to this virus and we need to heed the advice and guidance of the health authorities of our nation, especially those brave men and women who are risking not only their own health and welfare but also their lives and the lives of their loved ones to take care of those who are sick and vulnerable at this time.”
A spokesman for the S.Thomas's College Old Boys Union said the statement was to address the fraternity and that was why is was circulated only in the social media.
A first officer of the SriLankan Airlines, who was tested positive for COVID-19, had attended the Big Match. Since then authorities adviced the people, who were there at the match to undergo self-quarantine for 14 days. Now the first officer was completely recovered and discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH).(Yohan Perera)
