Twelve more batches of milk powder imported from New Zealand and Australia were released to the market after laboratory tests by the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) had found they were free of dicyandiamide (DCD), the Health Ministry said today.

The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Palitha Mahipala cleared six batches of milk powder imported by Fonterra Lanka Ltd., three batches of milk powder imported by Maliban Milk Products and three batches imported by Life Serve Ltd.

“These batches of milk powder have been manufactured after June 2013 after the New Zealand Government prohibited the use of DCD on their pasture lands. The New Zealand Government has guaranteed that all their milk products exported after June are free of DCD,” Health Ministry spokesman Dharma Wanninayaka said. (Sandun A. Jayasekera)
