“Narcotics cannot be controlled by only the law enforcement agencies,” ANF Commander Brig Shaid Afzal said while addressing a gathering during his visit to the Shaheed Naveed Younus Hospital in Pathanwali which is currently under-construction.
“The ANF generally catches big guns of drug mafia and drug pushers. Depending on only the law enforcing agencies for eradication of drug trafficking is not appropriate. We have to work towards the reduction in drug demands and treatment of addicts too.”
Most of the narcotics seized by the ANF Punjab are generally consumed in the province while the quantity which is seized in Karachi and Peshawar goes abroad, he said. He further said that the ANF Punjab seized 10.5 tonnes of narcotics within a week which is a great achievement.
“The ANF Pakistan has taken efficient measures and sealed all outlets from Pakistan to check drug carriers. It brought back commercial containers from Sri Lanka and Spain and recovered 445kgs of heroin stored in hidden cavities of these containers. Afghanistan is producing and exporting 600 tonnes of heroin to other countries but international farces have succeeded in detecting only 10-15 tonnes,” he said.
He also pledged full cooperation for the treatment and rehabilitation of addicts, saying that Shaheed Naveed Younus Hospital would be exemplary in Punjab. He announced a donation of Rs.50,000 towards the Shaheed Naveed Younus Hospital in Pathanwali, which is currently under construction. (Source: The Nation Pakistan)
