101 people test positive for Covid-19 from Minuwangoda cluster

The number of persons tested positive for Covid-19 from the Minuwangoda factory cluster had increased to 101 with the latest detection of 13 patients, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said.

Earlier, the Army Commander said over 1,400 employees of the apparel factory are to be subjected to PCR tests.

Accordingly, the Epidemiology Unit said the toll of confirmed Covid-19 patients in Sri Lanka surged to 3,513 with 241 active cases while 3,259 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. 

Meanwhile, Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka (PHIUSL) Secretary M. Balasooriya said out of the 71 cases, 31 are from the hostel of the Brandix while 21 and 11 are from the Minuwangoda and Divulapitiya areas respectively. Rest of the cases is from other areas, which have not been yet identified. 

Another two employees of the apparel factory were tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital while another close associate of Divulapitya patient was tested positive at Monaragala. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
