President Maithripala Sirisena today extended his gratitude to the officials of the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) and the Special Task Force (STF) for seizing the largest ever heroin haul in Sri Lanka.

He said the detection of the heroin haul was a great contribution done for the future generations of the country. “I always give my blessings and fullest support to thwart attempts of illegal drug smuggling," he said.

A large heroin haul weighing 294.4 kilogrammes valued at more than Rs. 3,533 million, the largest heroin detection ever made in Sri Lanka, was seized by the PNB and STF officials this morning.

Channo, isn't the SLPD duty bound to do this service. Do we need Prez/PM/MP and the other mutants to advise?. Sincerity of service should be the keyword of all the public servants than being patriotic. Patriotism comes through sincerity.

Can’t we give it to a country where heroine is not prohibited? and settle some debt. May be I am wrong.

    enzio Tuesday, 26 February 2019 02:02 PM

I don't think there are countries where Heroin is legal lol. Only marijuana is legal in some countries. To sell to those ones, you will need to meet their quality checks.

    Miflah Sunday, 24 February 2019 03:00 PM

So much of heroin and drugs being caught. Now where is all the drug stored and hope all distroyed or reach the market again with another source. I guess this has to be checked if not all the efforts are in vain. Utter waste of public money

    ravin Sunday, 24 February 2019 03:16 PM

This is nothing but eliminating the competition. Whoever the illicit importer (minister present or past) must have gotten too greedy. We as the public need to know what will happen to these large sums of narcotics after they're removed from the police custody ?

Peter Jerry Monday, 25 February 2019 02:35 AM

MS you and your ministers are corrupt and hence Sri Lanka has become the large drug center.

When honest officers are allowed to do their duty by the uniform, they would accomplish their tasks with admirable dedication and finesse. Politics, andoney have been the route of all evil in this country.

MS - question is what happens to this heroin. Will it hit streets via police back door?. To set an example Policemen should burn the haul and video shown on TV. Till then a dark side still exists.
