Eight individuals, including Colombo Municipal Councillor Duminda Sudammika Attygalle and the son of MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage, were arrested by the police in connection with the hit-and-run accident on Sunday morning at Bambalapitiya in which Borella Traffic Police OIC Inspector Sagara Sarathchandra sustained injuries.

The IP, who was riding a motorcycle, had been knocked down by a Defender (WP FZ—9143) followed by a Prado. The injured was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. Police said the Defender that fled the scene was later found from a house at Pelawatte in Battaramulla.

They said five out of eight individuals in the group had travelled in the Defender while the rest in the Prado. It is reported that they had been returning from a party at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Defender has been identified as Navindu Omesh Rathnayake (27) from Malabe, the son of an SP, while the owner of the Defender has been identified as Visitha Sri Wijesekera (27) from Colombo 3.

Police said the MP’s son Ranishka Bandara Aluthgamage (26), Sesitha Randeep Gunadasa (28) and Vindya Weerasinghe (27) were among the passengers in the Defender. They said the two passengers Kiran Neesh (23) and Chamara Dabare (28) were in the Prado at the time of the accident. However, the passengers and driver of the Prado have been taken into custody for not reporting the accident.

Meanwhile, Colombo Municipal Councillor Sudammika Attygalle (28), who drove the Prado, was arrested after he surrendered to the Bambalapitiya Police. The suspects were to be produced in the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court. Bambalapitiya Police have commenced investigations based on CCTV footage. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

If Mahindananda cannot bring up his own son as a good citizen how can he be a law maker to the country! At least people who elected should think twice when they vote this guy.

KANJIPANI IMRAN Monday, 25 February 2019 12:13 PM

Darling, go and check why TNA PC members son and nephew were released by force after rested red-hand for smuggling KG ,and why TNA MPs forced police dept through PM to do so. Does TNA want Jffna boys go hype with KG ?

kay fernando Tuesday, 26 February 2019 07:11 AM

Ronnie Bugger Monday, 25 February 2019 01:38 PM

With all the hundreds no kilos of heroine and cocaine being caught, the Police should initiate a new law to conduct blood tests on all dubious persons involved in road accidents. They will surely be able to detect a few addicts, be they sons or daughters of any bigwig.

Nanseer Mohamed Monday, 25 February 2019 01:42 PM

Hope, OIC will not say that he hit the defender and fell down himself.

    Amila W Monday, 25 February 2019 02:04 PM

It is a lesson to the majority of policemen that they have to take Defenders serious like three-wheelers too. Wishes for faster recovery of the policeman injured

    Srilankan Monday, 25 February 2019 02:15 PM

Nothing new in jolly Lanka. Prayers for the cop knocked down. For few days news, media, other politicos will go to town with this news... Then that's it.

Dennis Reeves Monday, 25 February 2019 02:27 PM

Mahinananda Aluthgamage's looted money is enough for 10 generations. Where is the action...

    S.T.M. Jabeer [Attorney-at-law] Monday, 25 February 2019 02:29 PM

Mr. President will save Aluthgamage's son. Wait and see. Then where is the justice?

Lucky Lucus Fernando Monday, 25 February 2019 02:32 PM

Arresting is good and the Police did the best, but releasing order comes from Ministers, sometimes from the PM, like how Weerawansa escaped with hora passport.

    K.L. Pathirana Monday, 25 February 2019 02:59 PM

In Sri Lanka we are such ignorant group of people with built in stupidity in our brains. Each election knowing the fact that nothing will change for the betterment of our selves and future generations we keep-on electing the same deceases until the cancer spreads in to our country, city, homes and family then there is nothing we can do but to die ... we're halfway there.

    ajith Monday, 25 February 2019 03:35 PM

    Ismail A Azeez Monday, 25 February 2019 06:24 PM

I was waiting to see this. If this has happened to an ordinary person we wouldn't have seen this news item. Do those culprits (so called peoples representatives) have a different law?

    Sam Monday, 25 February 2019 11:07 PM

Sri lanka is a country ( island ) with a major curse on its head. Somewhere , something has gone wrong within the entire country so much so that evil seems to flourish in every nook and corner. Lankans are turning out to be very pathetic and ugly people in all facets of life.

Palli Kanda Tuesday, 26 February 2019 03:40 AM

This is before MR' s lot come into power. Aluths son will be saved by MR. Signs of our future if our foolish voters continue the blind obsession with Potthuwa.
