Compelled to call for intl. tribunal to probe Easter Sunday Mayhem - Cardinal

Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today said he will be compelled to call for a probe by an international court over the Easter Sunday attacks, if justice is not meted out to victims of the mayhem and their families.
Cardinal Ranjith told a press conference that he is not satisfied with the investigations carried out by some, including the CID.
"I hope I would not have to seek the assistance of any international institutions, but would be compelled to call for such assistance if justice is not meted out to us. Those who were affected by the carnage expect some kind of redress from me. Also I believe that that government would not allow the Easter Sunday issue as another  international topic as it has already faced with some international pressure in Geneva" he said.
Also the Archbishop said he would take some action locally as well shortly. "I will announce this move later, as it will be a judicial matter," Cardinal Ranjith said.
He stressed the need for uncovering as to who was behind the attack and action should be taken against those who have ignored prior warnings about the attack.
Further he said he is yet to receive a copy of the Presidential commission report. “I can inform the affected persons about the report, if I get a copy of it,” he said.(Yohan Perera)

Those responsible for Easter Sunday attacks must be brought to justice, no one should play politics with it. However Cardinal should act responsibly not to create another problem among community. It’s a tight rope to walk. Government must act upon recommendation without delay. No politics, ball in on government court !

When the northerners were bombed left right and center, you did not whisper Int'l tribunal. Now suddenly you realize when the criminality has come to your own doorstep.

Ths government is averse to international involment on our soil no matter how serious the issue is and the report certainly would have pointed out dereliction of duty on the part of Defence Ministry and the perpetrators would be revealed.

Cardinal you are well aware who is responsible for this. Why are you still wearing that Robe as it is a disgrace. Call spade a spade or just resign. If you don't know what a spade is i will send you a pack of cards.

It is the duty of the government to make available the contents of the report to the people of the land and specially to give a copy to His Emminence The Cardinal.

Sir, Please never expect justice from Sri Lanka's system. Mr.Ranjan spoke about Sri Lankan's system. As a result, he is in prison. It is similar to Iran

The Cardinal doesn't need the report , he should be well aware of the respondents, just playing his part in the drama, may be? He has let down Catholic Church, for his political favours. Shame.

    Geetha Monday, 15 February 2021 03:14 PM

If the real truth is hidden and the justice was not served for those who responsible. We have no other choice, let's work together for a real change. Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Burger and all must unite for this change. The question is whom to trust?

Let the UN send in their International Peace Keeping Forces like in Lebanon, etc.

Kapila Wijemuny Saturday, 20 February 2021 04:34 AM

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith I hope you will take this government to world court for covering up the perpetrators in this report. This has become a crime with no perpetrators. I am a Buddhist, but crime is crime. We know that Quatary government paid 1 million dollars to hide the facts on this report.

I can't understand, why DM not consider the fact that this carnage happened by a few low IQ fellows, reading anti community ideology, these areas must be discussed openly to avoid future mayhem
