Britisher Maryanne India Beare has written to Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera last week requesting him to expedite the case relating to her son’s suspected killing. The case is currently being heard in a Magistrate’s Court.
Her son, 37-years-old Charles Jeevan Beare came to Sri Lanka in November 2017 seeking treatment for his drug addiction. The treatment was carried out at Seasons Lanka – the Sri Lankan branch of an Australian resort-type drug rehabilitation centre located in Kalutara. Charles was found dead at a park in Colombo in January 2018.
However, days after his death, the rehab centre was shut down and the other addicts under treatment were repatriated to their respective countries while the Australian staff had reportedly fled Sri Lanka.
The death is being treated as a result of a murder and currently under investigation. Another case has been filed by the Tourist Police on charges of Seasons Lanka and its Sri Lankan partner, Certis Lanka having misled the public by advertising the centre as a licensed drug rehabilitation centre and drawing foreigners to the country to undergo rehabilitation programmes.
When contacted by Daily Mirror, Certis Lanka Executive Director Jeevaka Wijesinghe said Certis Lanka had only rented out their property to the Hader Group to launch their rehabilitation facility and in no way involved in the operations of this centre.
Meanwhile, in her letter the AG, Ms. Beare also requested the AG to transfer the case to the High Court.

if you need to expedite the case no point writing to AG. Be prepared to bribe the judges and your case will be expedited.

If your connected to Rajapakse's, then this case will be sorted in anyway you want, screw the laws of the country. If not, then you will have to wait, wait

When you rent out a property for business purposes, the owner has to do some basic background checks to determine if the tenant is engaging in a legitimate business.

Bunch of guys writing to these columns appear to be having just one motivation discredit Sri Lanka whenever wherever possible. If you dislike it here then leave , go to your masters.

People, calm down and don’t try to be the AG here. Horrible prejudice....AG is doing what he can as it seems to me by looking at recent indictments.

None of the comments blame the Australian franchise or Australian staff who fled? Some of the disgruntled comments are from people who are unhappy with their lives OR ltte guys washing dishes at KFC.

A lie . Certis Lanka were running it with Australian professionals. The poor boy died due to direct certis negligence. They should be prosecuted and certis must pay the innocent mother millions in compensation.

Why should we spend money on a British druggie killed by an Australian druggie?

Mike - Why blame the Australians or Australia when the perpetrated criminality happened inside Sri Lanka

It's just one life, more than 300 died by blown to smithereens in 2019 Easter Sunday morning, while they were praying in several churches, but this could be easily stopped, if AG's office attended on time to criminal, Islam religious maniac Saharan 's file without sitting on it, more than two years

I send you my condolences dear Maryanne. Our local system is like no where else in the world. Nothing will get done for as long as we live. I'm telling you with my own experiences. My family members have gone through legal matters for ages, now they are dead and gone but the legal matters are still going on. Please think twice before one put yourself in situations in our beautiful island. It's not the fault of the country but it's the people.

Mr Mike, real Australians are educated professionals in this field. Australia is a developed first world country. The people who ran this resort must be dodgy Sri Lankans using the prized name of Australia for their criminal benefit

This happened during the Yahapalanya era, where was the "good governance" to prevent such events or at least peruse justice. Comically people are blaming Rajapakase. Also the Australian nationals are just as guilty but the hate filled mental slaves only blame Sri Lankans (and only because they assume those Sri Lankans are NOT Tamil or muslim LOL).
