McLarens Group shuttlers registered another milestone in the Mercantile Badminton Calendar by clinching the Grand Slam 4th Mercantile Badminton Association Inter-Firm Team Doubles Championship 2014.
The event was worked off at the S. Thomas’ College indoor Sports Complex in Mount Lavinia.
Leading to the Tournament, the team was handicapped due to the unavailability of the top ranked Badminton player and National champion Niluka Karunarathne as he was travelling overseas.
Despite the setback, the Company shuttlers proved their might and determination as they beat Sampath Bank to reach the finals.
The grand final was against HNB who were the hot favourites to clinch the title.
However, a determined team lead by Navin Perera under the sheer guidance of Rohan De Silva, broke all odds and surprised everyone gathered to win the “Grand Slam - ‘A’ Division” 2014 title for McLarens Group.
