Lasith Malinga will be available for the World Cup and will also be able to participate in the World Cup match-preparations, declared his surgeon Dr. David Young.
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Melbourne on yesterday, he said "I am unable to divulge details on our consultation with the bowler other than to say that he has a small problem with spurs of bone in his left ankle, his landing leg during the delivery stride of bowling, requires correction with an ankle arthroscopy".
"This procedure will be performed tomorrow (this evening) at the Avenue Hospital and he will be returning to Sri Lanka in one weeks time. He will require six weeks off running and will be available for the World cup preparation in two months time".
Interestingly, Dr. Young is a huge fan of the game.” I am a very keen cricket fan and very much want to see him involved in the World Cup".
"I visit Sri Lanka regularly every 3-4 months as part of my charity work supporting the building of an Accident and Emergency department at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital".
Apart from Malinga, Dr. Young has successfully treated several international cricketers from various countries like Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.
