Shelinda crowned Best Athlete at ISAC Meet

Shelinda Jansen of Gateway College, Colombo was crowned as the Best Overall Athlete at the 20th International Schools’ Athletics Championships (ISAC) which concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo today (16).

The promising athlete stole the limelight at this 3-day meet by winning two events, Girls’ 100m and 200m with a record breaking performance.

She won the 100m with a time of 11.94s and followed up with the 200m with a time of 24.60s which gave her a total of 1,003 IAAF points.

Meanwhile, Sandun Kumara of Lyceum International School, Wattala was selected as the Best Athlete in the Boys’ Championship.

He set up a new meet record of 15.44m while winning the triple jump event.

Lyceum International School, Wattala with a total of 92 medals (Gold 39, Silver 30 and Bronze 23) once again won the overall title of the meet.

Gateway College, Colombo emerged runners-up with a total of 72 medals including 24 Gold, 29 Silver and 19 Bronze Medals.

In addition, a total of 54 new meet records were established.

Age Group Championships:

Under-12 Girls’: Surakshi Daranagama (Horizon College International). Under-12 Boys’: Binal Gunaratne (Gateway, Colombo)

Under-12 Overall Champions: Gateway, Colombo. Under-14 Girls’: Nehansa Paranaliyanage (Gateway, Colombo) and Nelini Samarasekara (Lyceum, Nugegoda).

Under-14 Boys’: Kenul Dulmin (Lyceum, Wattala). Under-14 Overall Champions: Lyceum, Wattala. Under-16 Girls’: Seneka Gunarathne (Colombo International School, Kandy). Under-16 Boys’: Dineth Wirarathne (Leeds International School, Panadura). Under-16 Overall Champions: Lyceum, Wattala. Under-18 Girls’: Dulyana Suludagoda (Lyceum, Nugegoda), Maleeka Amith (Gateway, Colombo) and Shashini Dilsha (Lyceum, Wattala). Under-18 Boys’:

Pasindu Gunawardena (Gateway, Colombo). Under-18 Champions: Lyceum, Wattala. Under-20 Girls’: Sadeepa Henderson (Gateway, Colombo). Under-20 Boys’: Sandun Kumara (Lyceum, Wattala). Under-20 Champions: Lyceum, Wattala. Overall Relay Champions: Gateway, Colombo. Best Girls’ Athlete: Shelinda Jansen (Gateway, Colombo). Best Boys’ Athlete: Sandun Kumara (Lyceum, Wattala), Best Performer of the Meet: Shelinda Jansen (Gateway, Colombo).
