Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is likely to appoint two new national selectors very soon according to reliable sources.
Sports Minister Harin Fernando is scheduled to meet the SLC Ex-Co Members on Friday (2) and the names of the two new selectors are likely to be discussed.
“Most probably the Sports Minister will retain Ashantha de Mel and one more member from the existing panel of four selectors and would include two new selectors,” the source revealed.
In fact, the term of the current four-member selection committee which includes Ashantha de Mel, Chaminda Mendis, Brendon Kurrupu and Hemantha Wickramaratne, who were approved by Fernando’s predecessor, runs till November. None of these four members are full time selectors.
“The Minister is in favour of having two young selectors, who could understand the mindset of the players,” the source further added.
However, it is still not clear whether the Sri Lanka Test Squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand would be picked by the new set of selectors.
