The competition will see the participation of 124 athletes from over 20 different countries. The competition will be of importance to all the surfers, with QS points from the event being aligned with the World Rankings.
Eight Sri Lankan surfers will receive the opportunity to take part in this event as wildcards. A qualification tournament will be held on September 23 and 24 to determine the eight wildcards who will get a chance to rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the sport.
President of the Sri Lankan Surfing Federation, Hiran Ukwatte said, “It will be amazing to have the World Surf League come back to Sri Lanka. We cannot wait to witness a world class event and watch the positive affect it will have on surf sports and surf tourism in our country,”
