Chilaw Marians CC Team celebrates after receiving the trophy

Sumit Ghadigaonkar continued his batting prowess and together with Rumesh Buddika helped Chilaw Marians CC record a comfortable 91-run win over NCC in their SLC Premier Limited Over Cricket Tournament final played at the SSC Grounds yesterday.
Chilaw Marians CC, invited to take first lease of the wicket posted a formidable 285 for eight and NCC in their turn were able to score only 201 runs.
Sumit made a quick-fire 79 in 77 balls that included 14 boundaries and was involved in two fruitful partnerships.
He figured in an opening stand of 63 runs in 64 balls with Lasith Croospulle and was also associated in a 65-run stand for the second-wicket with Kamindu Mendis who chipped in with 44.
Thereafter, Rumesh Buddika who remained unbeaten on 60 added a valuable 69 in 61 balls for the fifth-wicket with Thikshila de Silva who cracked 47 in just 36 balls which comprised three boundaries and three sixes.
NCC in their run chase received a sound start through their openers Lahiru Udara and Pathum Nissanka who put on 70 runs.
NCC were 119 for two at the half way stage of the innings but from thereon, they lost wickets at regular intervals and slid to 123 for six in the 30th over.
NCC were eventually bowled out for 204 in the 44th over despite some useful contributions coming from the latter order batsmen.
The spin combination of Kamindu Mendis and Skipper Shehan Jayasuriya shared six wickets between them.

NCC: 204 in 43.4 overs (Lahiru Udara 50, Pathum Nissanka 38, Chamika Karunaratne 32, Nimesha Gunasinghe 24, Chamika Gunasekera 24 n.o, Kamindu Mendis 3/32, Shehan Jayasuriya 3/38).
