Over 2,000 athletes from 23 international schools are expected to take part in the 20th International Schools’ Athletics Championship (ISAC 2020) which is scheduled to be held from February 14 to 16 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The International Schools’ Athletic meet which commenced in the year 2001 has established itself as the flagship sporting event in the international school sporting calendar.
Gateway College are the official organiser of ISAC 2020 for the 11th year. The event will have 350 technical officials officiating the meet.
A large gathering of over 15,000 students, parents and past pupils are expected at the three-day event.
Rohini Alles, Managing Director of Gateway Group, will be the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony which will be held at 8.00 a.m. on February 14. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Foreign Relations, Skills Development, Employment and Labour Relations and the and Leader of the House of Parliament, will grace the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest on February 16.
In addition, Premila Paulraj, Regional Director - Asia, Pearson PLC, and Shea Wickremasinghe, Group Managing Director at CBL Group, will be the guests of honour.
Dr Harsha Alles, Chairman, Gateway Group said that ISAC is a premier athletics event which began from humble beginnings when it was first held at the Shalika Grounds in Narahenpita.
“ISAC is unique because it has produced not only National level athletes but international schools students have gone into represent Sri Lanka at international competitions as well,” said Dr Alles during a media conference held at the SSC yesterday.
