The final decision on a Sports Ministry (SM) delegation to the South Asian Games (SAG) in December has yet to be made, the Daily Mirror learns.
Sports Minister Harin Fernando was expected to make a decision on Monday regarding the request made by Director General of the Department for Sports Development Dhammika Muthugala to approve a list of 32 Sports Ministry officials to travel to Nepal for the SAG next month.
While the inclusion of most names was merited, there were also some questionable recommendations, which will come at a substantial additional cost to the Sports Ministry.
There was an active effort to limit the number of athletes sent to the games to ensure that costs are reduced but whatever gains will now potentially be spent on accommodating these officials, if the list in its entirety is approved. (SMD)
