Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has proposed a charity cricket match be played between a team of former national players against the current players.

This was revealed by Prof. Arjuna de Silva, the Chairman of the Medical Panel of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Prof. de Silva said, "This match is proposed to raise funds for COVID-19. The Minister has proposed this T20 match be played in the month of April after the current players return from the West Indies.”

"We intend to host this match at the R. Premadasa Stadium and allow 50% of spectators to witness their heroes.”

"The current Sri Lankan team will be led by the T20 captain Dasun Shanaka," he added.

It is not yet clear who would lead a team of former cricketers.

Tillakaratne Dilshan is currently leading the Sri Lankan Legends team at the Road Safety World Series Tournament now being played in India.

The match which is most likely to be played, according to Prof. De Silva, will be the first for COVID victims.
