Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva has been ruled out for the rest of the ongoing Test against South Africa with further participation in the series also in doubt.
The 30-year-old de Silva had to be taken off the field following, what was later diagnosed as, a thigh injury.
"We have received his Ultrasound Scan reports. He has a 2nd grade tear on the thigh. He is certainly out of this Test and is very unlikely to play in for the second Test too," Sri Lanka’s Team Manager and Selector on Tour Ashantha de Mel said on Sunday morning.
The second Test between the two countries will be played in Johannesburg from January 3 to 7.
Dhananjaya will not return home, de Mel added.
"Our physio and trainer will look after him to ensure early recovery and we hope he will be available for the Test matches against England,” the manager further added.
The two Tests against England will be played at the Galle International Stadium (from January 14-18 and 22-26).
