An explosive contest is on the cards as Colombo FC and Blue Eagles SC battle under lights at the Sugathadasa Stadium today in the final of the Vantage FFSL President’s Trophy 2020. Kick-off is scheduled for 6.30pm.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa will grace the occasion as the chief guest of the tournament organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL).
Colombo FC will be seeking to avenge their 2-0 loss to Blue Eagles in the group stages. The Airmen, known as Blue Eagles, had an unbeaten run though losing in the quarter-finals to New Star SC who were disqualified for impersonating a youth player.
Both semifinals were decided on penalties after the scores were deadlocked 2-2 at full time.
The FFSL allocated rupees 30 million as participation fees for the 20 teams. The champions will receive Rs. 300,000 as prize money in addition to the trophy.
The tournament was played behind closed doors with limited fans being allowed into the stadium following strict health regulations because of the coronavirus. The match is being streamed live through FFSL’s official YouTube channel ‘Sri Lanka Football TV’.
