Army Masters Sports Club Matale posted a thrilling 1-0 win over Old Vijayans Sports Club Matale to emerge champions at the Matale HA President’s Trophy Men’s Inter-Club Hockey Sevens tournament 2019 concluded at Edward park hockey ground in Matale.
After a scoreless first half Asanka Welagedara succeeded in breaking the deadlock, firing in what turned out to be the winning goal shortly before the long whistle. S.N. Jayasinghe and M. Rifad controlled the final.
On the way to the finals Army Masters SC led by C.N. Cramer beat Hulangamuwa SC 1-0 and Old Vijayans SC outplayed Second Mile Post SC Kotuwegedara by 2-1.
Sixteen sports clubs representing Matale district took part in the tournament conducted by Matale Hockey Association.
