The Clearing Association of Bankers concludes 27th successful Annual Interbank Quiz Competition

The 27th Annual Interbank Quiz Competition organized by the Clearing Association of Bankers (CAB) took place on the on the 23rd of June 2019 at the Balmoral Hall, of the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. D. Kumaratunga, the Director of Payment & Settlement at CBSL.  

28 teams from the banking fraternity participated in the competition with the People’s Bank ‘C’ Team emerging as the victors. The first and second runners-up were the team from Seylan Bank and People’s Bank ‘B’ Team respectively. As in the previous years, the Quiz Master was Mr. Ravi Molligoda.

The objectives of the Annual Interbank Quiz Competition, which is open to all commercial, development and savings banks, and financial institutions, are to foster good relations among the banking and financial institutions, and to serve as an educational program on subjects including current affairs, banking and financial law, international trade, sports, entertainment. A special additional round was conducted this year with questions related to Lanka Pay in order to enhance the participants’ knowledge about the company’s products and services.

The Clearing Association of Bankers (CAB) is an association formed by the staff of the cheque clearing departments of all commercial banks in Sri Lanka, the National Clearing House, Lanka Clear (Pvt) Ltd and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

CAB was formed with the objective of enhancing the knowledge of bankers as well as to promote goodwill, understanding and fellowship among bankers engaged in clearing, and to acquire cutting edge technology in the world with regard to clearing for member banks. The association currently constitutes of more than 450 life members from the banking fraternity and the incumbent President is Mr. M. Razak Deen from MCB Bank.

The Winners – the People’s Bank ‘C’ Team. Mr. Susil Peiris, the Director/Group CIO of Metropolitan Office (Pvt) Ltd (Platinum Sponsor) hands over the champion’s trophy to the Captain of the People’s Bank ‘C’ Team. The Chief Guest Mr. D Kumarathunga, the Director of Payment & Settlement at CBSL, the President of the Clearing Association of Bankers, Mr. M. Razak Deen of MCB Bank and the Immediate Past President of the Clearing Association of Bankers, Mr. Upul De Silva of People’s Bank are also present.

The 1st Runners Up –  the Seylan Bank Team receive their trophy from Mr. Thurab Hilmy, the General Manager of the Transnational Group (Gold Sponsor). The Chief Guest, Mr. D. Kumarathunga, the Director of Payment & Settlement at CBSL and the President of the Clearing Association of Bankers, Mr. M. Razak Deen of MCB Bank also present.

2nd Runners up – Peoples Bank ‘B’ team, Mr. Piyal Nanayakkara AGM of BC Computers (Pvt) Ltd hands over the trophy to the Captain of the 2nd Runners Up - the Peoples Bank ‘B’ team. The Chief Guest Mr. D Kumarathunga, the Director of Payment & Settlement at CBSL, the President of the Clearing Association of Bankers, Mr. M. Razak Deen of MCB Bank and the Immediate Past President of the Clearing Association of Bankers, Mr. Upul De Silva of People’s Bank are also present.
