With the outbreak of the deadly Pandemic the Rotary Club of Colombo West embarked on a project to partner the Ministry of Health (MOH) to support our foremost research lab – the MRI (Medical Research Institute), which is at the forefront of the COVID -19 diagnosis.
The Club decided to help the MRI to re-equip and modernize their equipment to carry out tests faster and more accurately.
A specialized 6 Part Hematological Analyzer with CRP, which is currently not available in the Hematological Department and a 10,000 rpm Centrifuge to the cost of Rs.3.8 Mn was donated to the MRI in the presence of the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Ms Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
Rotary which commenced in 1905, is a worldwide organisation whose membership now exceeds 1.25 million in over 200 countries with the motto of ‘Service above self’, and in Sri Lanka itself, has more than 1,400 Rotarians in 70 Rotary Clubs. The Rotary Club of Colombo West, one of the largest clubs in Sri Lanka, with nearly 100 members is actively involved in community service projects across the country.
