First ever Junior Tournament to tee off at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Course

The first ever junior golf tournament at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa will tee off on the 3rd and 4th March with the practice game on the 2nd.

The tournament has shifted to a brand new location as a result of the collaboration of Prima Sunrise (Prima Group Sri Lanka)with Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa, the tournament’s title sponsor and hospitality partner respectively. 

Shangri-La’s Hambantota is the only golf resort in Sri Lanka. Spread across a vast coconut palm plantation, the par-70, 18 hole golf course offers spectacular views of the Indian Ocean, with distinctive challenges for both beginners and seasoned players. The golf course was designed by the globally celebrated designer, Rodney Wright.
The first ever Regional Junior Open was played in 2013 in Kandy followed by Eagles Golf Links, China Bay,Trincomalee.

Also the numbers have grown with the popularity of the game increasing island-wide due to the focused outreach programs carried out by Sri Lanka Golf to propagate the sport at the grassroots, in such areas like Killinochchi, Anuradhapura, Diyathalawa, Welisera, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.” The inaugural Junior Tournament is possible with our long standing sponsor Prima Sunrise Bread and hospitality partner Shangri La, Hambantota -Niloo Jayatilake - Chairperson Junior Sub Committee, Sri Lanka Golf.

The event is also a junior ranking tournament for 2019. Nutrition for the players during the event will be provided by Prima Sunrise, the title sponsor of this tournament.
