Top men of Pohottuwa held an important conference on the occasion of Yo’s homecoming at the Medamulana residence.
Delivering a pep-talk on the occasion, the Pohottuwa founder apprised the party high-ups of certain ‘dos’ and ‘do-nots’ to follow and proceeded to enumerate a host of indiscretions on the part of some of them in the past.
Recalling one particular incident where the misbehaviour of a party high-up had caused heavy damage to the party, the Pohottuwa founder said:
“At the 2015 General Elections, in … (He mentions a district in Rajarata) we lost a number of seats we could have easily won. It was a minor incident that turned the tide against us in this district…One of our Ministers, who had gone to this district for campaigning had taken a drink too many in one evening, waded into a river at a popular bathing spot and had begun taking a dip fully naked. Men and women who had come there for a bath, on seeing the nude Minister in the water, had turned back angrily blackguarding him for his shameless conduct!
Thereafter, the news about a Minister bathing in the river fully naked spread in the entire area like wildfire…The outcome was that we lost all the seats there…We lost the election… This is a good lesson for all of you! Don’t do such stupid things during this campaign…!”
Later, everyone wanted to know the purohita who had tainted the image of the party by bathing naked in the river, but, the Pohottuwa founder avoided giving an answer to this query.
“I can’t reveal his name!” he said. “He is a person hailing from that area, a scion of a royal dynasty!”
Having said that with finality, we went on to another subject,” they say.
