Well a billion dollars in military aid will be released in the coming weeks to Pakistan. If that is not an incentive to open the road to the convoys, what else would? Pakistan is a failed country with so many factions fighting one another. Once the US washes her hands off in 2014 when the majority of the ISAF forces leave, Pakistan would have to adopt another method to get aid from the USA.

@ Mr Hussain' correct your facts, the US$ 1.1 billion was not granted out of the US penchant for charity - it was required to be paid to Pakistan as cost of fighting the US war on terror by Pakistan being the front line ally by using her military personnel and resources. Pakistan had not invited the US and NATO to launch their war in this part of the world neither did Pakistan had asked the US to make Afghanistan their battle ground against USSR in 80s. It is the mess created by US which Ms Hillary has herself admitted on record. It would have been better if the error had been admitted by the US from the beginning. Instead, tortuous talks delayed the rebuilding of the essential alliance between the US and Pakistan.the continued closure of supply lines was harming Pakistan’s relations, not just with the US, but also with the 49 other member states of Nato.

Both Pakistan and US need to maintain their symbiotic and connubial relationship with one another to fulfill each nations self interest. Therefore, each partner is forced to go to bed with the other, knowing very well of the risk factors that this wanton act harbinger. Each demands more for their services and remuneration for their own follies and "Screw-ups" while citizens of both nations pay a terrible price.

The Afghani was ended the day the US President set a deadline to withdraw from a war where the Taliban is undefeated. What is now taking place can be surmised as mopping up. The Taliban's cadres are drawn from the Afghani populace & will overthrow the US backed Karzai gov. When the US decided to distance herself from Pakistan both Russia and China stepped in. Putin will visit Pakistan in Sept. the first time a Russian leader has ever visited Pakistan. The umbilical cord between the US and Pakistan has now been severed.

Several points have been left out of the article. When the US/Pakistan relationship hit a new low both Russia and China moved in. It would be the first time in Russia's history when Putin visits Islamabad in September. Secondly the US has already claimed defeat when she stated a deadline to withdraw her troops from this war in 2014. thirdly the Taliban is undefeated and there is a good chance they will topple the US backed Karzai gov. the moment the US exits. Finally the Pakistani people, including the ISI and the army are rallying around the Pakistani Taliban. It is no surprise that Osama bin Laden found safe refuge in Pakistan.
