Sri Lanka should use the intervention of Tamil Nadu to its own advantage, by stressing the fact that the Sinhala speaking majority has no other homeland, but Sri Lanka. Whereas, the Tamil Speaking 'Minority' has the vast horde of Tamil Speakers in TamilNadu just a stone's throw away across the Palk Strait.

The question why are sinhalese scared about federalism? It is simply more powers to the regions instead of centralised power. We can see the sheer arrogant abuse, corruption that has taken place under MR under a horrible Presidential power, a typical example of centralise power. Federalism under a united Sri Lanka is the reconciliation bridge to kick the plague of racism that has wrecked this once great island.

Sampanthan's object of using Federalism as a stepping stone to division should never be given credence. The rise of TESO while New Delhi stays silent is telling. For Mr. Sampanthan to state "“Our expectation for a solution to the ethnic problem of the sovereignty of the Tamil people is based on a political structure outside that of a unitary government in a united Sri Lanka in which the Tamil people have all the powers of government needed to live with self respect and self sufficiency" is tantamount to proclaiming a separate state .
